Dr. Rick Franklin
Dr. Rick Franklin is a local guy, with a blue-collar upbringing, from Pryor, OK. While in pursuit of his undergraduate education, Rick spent 6 years, mostly the warmer months, traveling to Dutch Harbor, Alaska, an Aleutian island 800 miles out in the Bering Sea, to work construction. You may have seen the reality TV show “The Deadliest Catch“. It is largely filmed in and around Dutch Harbor.
It was during his time in the Navy that Dr. Franklin sparked his desire to travel. He enlisted immediately after graduation from Pryor High School and served four years in the Submarine Service as a Machinist Mate, where he received the National Defense Service Medal for service during a national emergency (wartime). His final duty station and honorable discharge came while serving aboard the USS Pintado, a fast-attack nuclear submarine out of Pearl Harbor, HI.
